Cyprus Rugby is proud to announce the appointment of Liam Dunseath as the new Head Coach of the national team. With a dynamic blend of international coaching experience, performance analysis expertise and a proven ability to build strong team cultures, Dunseath brings a fresh, modern perspective to the helm of Cyprus Rugby.

A seasoned coach and performance analyst, Dunseath has worked at every level of the game - from grassroots school development to Tier 1 international rugby. His career spans over 12 years across state and private schools, universities and professional teams, making him exceptionally well-equipped to lead Cyprus Rugby through its next phase of growth.
Empowering Players to Lead and Develop
Most recently, Dunseath led Imperial Medicals RFC to a BUCS Conference Trophy and Varsity Cup double in the 2024/25 season. He credits this success to the implementation of a player-led leadership model that fostered accountability, ownership and deep engagement among the squad. “It’s about creating an environment where players are empowered to lead and develop both on and off the field,” says Dunseath. “When players are connected to a shared purpose, success follows.”
This philosophy of shared leadership and purposeful culture is central to Dunseath’s coaching style. He prioritises clarity of vision, strong interpersonal relationships and cultivating a sense of belonging within the team. “Team dynamics thrive when players feel part of something bigger than themselves,” he explains. “My job is to help them take ownership of that vision, to guide and inspire - not just direct.”
In addition to his hands-on coaching credentials, Dunseath brings cutting-edge expertise in performance analysis, having worked with some of the most respected names in global rugby. He has served as a consultant to the national teams of England, Japan, Tonga and the USA - supporting coaches with 3D video analysis, tactical breakdowns, and visual learning tools that enhance player understanding and game intelligence.
International Outlook
His recent stint with the Japan national team under Eddie Jones involved creating virtual 3D pitch maps to help players visualise tactical roles and responsibilities. He also supported Moana Pasifika during their 2023 Super Rugby campaign, where he analysed opposition structures and contributed to game strategy and team reviews.
A key strength Dunseath brings to Cyprus is his international outlook. Having worked in over 23 countries, he has a unique ability to adapt to different cultures and communicate effectively with diverse groups of players and staff. “Cyprus has enormous potential,” he says. “My goal is to help harness that talent, develop a cohesive team identity, and compete with consistency and pride on the international stage.”
As he steps into his role with Cyprus Rugby, Dunseath is focused on creating an environment that blends high performance with personal development. He believes that through hard work, reflection and strong relationships, Cyprus can build a legacy both on and off the field.
The future of Cyprus Rugby looks promising under his leadership.
New Assistant Coach Adds Support for the Mighty Mouflons
Joining Liam is newly appointed Assistant Coach, James Peters. James brings a wealth of experience from some of the most respected rugby development environments in the UK and will play a key role in supporting the continued growth and competitive performance of Cyprus Rugby.

Currently, James serves as the ACE Rugby Lead at Loughborough College and as an Academy Coach with Leicester Tigers - one of the top professional clubs in English rugby. His work at the academy level has given him a deep understanding of player development, talent identification and high-performance standards - qualities that will greatly benefit the Cyprus national squad.
James’ coaching journey is rooted in both performance and development roles, including his time as a Performance Coach for Loughborough University’s National 2 team, where he was responsible for shaping their attacking strategies and backline execution. He also held roles as Development Head Coach at Loughborough University and as Head Coach of the Loughborough Lightning Centre of Excellence, showcasing his ability to lead, mentor and inspire players at all stages of their careers.
In the sevens format, James led both the Scimitar Storm 7s and Loughborough College Girls 7s teams, building technical skills and tactical awareness in fast-paced environments. His broader grassroots and representative experience - including coaching at Burton RFC, West Bridgford RFC and with the Midlands U20s - reflects his commitment to developing rugby from the ground up.
James said "It is going to be a lot of fun supporting Liam on this new project, and can’t wait for our first camp as we begin this exciting journey.
There are clearly a group of people who are passionate about growing this programme, and seeing what we can achieve, I am excited to get to work with them all."
James’ arrival marks an exciting step forward for Cyprus Rugby, bringing fresh ideas, elite coaching standards and a strong development mindset that will support the senior team as well as the wider national rugby pathway.
